“Unto Thee Benevolent Goat / All Seeing Ei” is the new double single from Dublin-born artist and SSMMÜTT member Robert Mirolo. The initial release from forthcoming album Black Pools – Red Dot, this pulsating record was produced in the dark isolation of an émigré’s German winter. The product is no grim reverie; instead, Mirolo has conveyed two pulsating, vital transmissions from the edge of ecstasy.

These twin missives from the other realm were recorded in the wake of a support slot for James Holden and sets at Leipzig Noise Fest and Another Love Story. “Benevolent Goat / All Seeing Ei”’s throbbing Motorik rhythms and lysergic textures were born from an alchemy of bass, guitar, harmonium, modular synths and cobbled-together percussion.

Mirolo has drawn from the microtonal and drone heritage of European music outside of the classical tradition, merged with affinities to post-punk, noise and dark ambient. While these singles mark a personal exit from nihilism into a spiritual ethos, the result is anything but ethereal: the physicality and potency of “Benevolent Goat / All Seeing Ei” makes for two essential entries into the doom rock canon.
